Online Backup
Online backup is an automated solution that allows PCs, laptops and servers to backup and recover data securely offsite, share files, collaborate with co-workers, store files online, and access data from a remote location (remote restore).
If required, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Lotus Domino, Lotus Notes, Oracle 8i or higher, MySQL, In-File Delta and Volume Shadow Copy agents are supplied free of charge. Our online backup service will automatically backup computers and servers via a secure internet connection to secure data centres. Your data is secured with 128-bit encryption for safe transmission to our replicated off-site storage locations.
Is Online Backup Cheaper?
Making conventional backups costs time and effort. Making online backups is a fully automated process, which enables you to focus on your work instead. Online Backups are done on schedule set by you, reliably. Most businesses don’t do this. For one reason or another, they don’t keep a regular backup regimen. Usually it’s because the person responsible for doing backups (if there is one) is too busy doing something else, or someone is using the computer when it’s time for a backup, or they simply forget. Since online backups are done with automated software usually at night, when nobody is using the computer, backups are always done on schedule. Don’t worry about leaving your computer running, if required, our software will even shut your system down when the backup is complete.
How long does an online backup take?
Computer backup times will largely depend upon the amount of data you have to backup and the speed of the connection you have to the internet. Most backups work successfully with a broad band connection of some form (ADSL, Cable) as it is 'always on' allowing easy overnight backups. A dial-up modem type connection will work so long as the data volumes are not excessive (up to 500MB) and a fixed tariff ISP service is available so that you do not incur additional call charges whilst doing the backup.
In all cases the initial backup will take longer than subsequent backups, which are typically less than 3% of the original. This is because only changes are sent to the data centres and the data is efficiently compressed before sending. Users should not be concerned about the time taken for the initial backup, because the software ensures that the process is completed effectively even if the process is interrupted.
If you are not currently backing up your data, then online backup is a perfect way to avoid the hassle of associated with any alternate solution. It can be set up within minutes and ensure that your own, your business and your client data is totally protected.
